How long will it take
Once we have the application and reply forms, your case will be assigned an assessor. The assessor will normally contact each of the parties within two to three working days of appointment.
If the parties want to mediate, the assessor will arrange for the mediation to take place over the next two to four weeks. If the parties do not wish to mediate, or mediation is unsuccessful, the assessor will investigate the case and make a decision.
The time required for investigation will depend on the complexity of the dispute. Most cases will be decided within two to four months. Complex cases may take longer but generally not more than six months. Urgent cases will be prioritised and given fast-track treatment.
The assessor will give you a clear time estimate once he knows what the issues are and the time he thinks he will need.
